Yangon, formerly Rangoon, was the capital of Myanmar until the new capital at Naypyidaw was created by the military rulers in November 2005. Today, with a population of over 5 million people, it remains the largest city and main economic hub of Myanmar.

Yangon can boast of some of the worst traffic in the world - even with a military imposed ban on motorbikes and motor-rickshaws, it can be painfully slow to move from on end of the city to another, and there is no mass transit. It took us over 2 1/2 hours to get tyo the airport, a drivee whioch should take less than 30'. I measured it took us over 15' to get passed just one traffic light.
